Founded, directed, and led by award-winning playwright Ayvaunn Penn, the second biannual Stethoscope Stage National Play Festival is being hosted by the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University and produced by Theatre TCU. The festival will be held at 1PM CT on October 19, 2024 in PepsiCo Recital Hall located at TCU. Admission is FREE and open to the public, but seat reservations are required.

With unsettling statistics around maternal mortality rates in the United State of America and stories such as those of Kyira Adele Dixon, Serena Williams, and most recently Kate Cox at the forefront of press and national conversations, the Stethoscope Stage 2024 theme reflects on maternal health and effective — or ineffective — communication between women and their healthcare providers. The festival consists of an approximately one-hour staged reading of plays and monologues selected from national submissions and is followed by a panel discussion led by medical professionals and experts.   • Lindsay Hayward, MA – Academic Coordinator, Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU. Lindsay is an international performer, playwright and EMC candidate.
  • Erin Nelson, PsyD – Assistant Dean of Physician Communication, Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU. Dr. Nelson has over two decades of experience conducting independent psychological evaluations and providing consultation on psycho-legal matters.
  • Ayvaunn Penn, BA, MA, MFA – Stethoscope Stage Founder. In addition to being an assistant professor of Theatre at Texas Christian University, Penn is a Columbia University Playwriting Dean’s Fellow, published playwright, and a full member of The Dramatists Guild of America.
